Skip the overpriced pretentious restaurants on the island and enjoy some awesome food with equally fantastic service!!! We just got back from Maui and enjoyed two meals at Moana. Before you hit the "road to Hana" stop in and have them pack up a sandwich and some baked goods for you. We had the turkey sandwich and it was the best turkey sandwich that you will ever have in your lifetime!!! Great baked goods every morning, great coffee, fresh squeezed juice and excellent service!!! Each plate is a work of art!!! I would visit Moana every day if I could!!! Love it...Love it....Love it!!! -- T.H. Orlando, Florida
Great food (healthy) and atmosphere, we too stumbled upon this establishment by accident looking for the Paia Fish Market and very glad we did. I had the Lamb Wahi, very light but filling dish with a nice Asian potato cake and mixed greens with a sweet Thai chili dressing. Also tried the Cambodian Mahi, and Mahi Sandwich, both were also very good dishes. This is now a must hit spot everytime we return to Maui. Service was very good as well. Prices ranged from $10-18 for lunch but well worth it. -- R.T. Honolulu, Hawai'i
Born and Raised in San Francisco, possibly the best place in America for food, I'm overall not too impressed by restaurants in Hawaii. Therefore, living on Maui, I cook a lot. Thank God the island has sustainable produce and easy access to organic foods. The only restaurant that I trust for eating in Paia is Moana Bakery and Cafe. The food is all homemade with fresh ingredients. The menu is about 75% sustainable from the island. That's as much as you'll ever get around here. The produce is all local, fresh fish daily, the beef is Maui Cattle, the breads and all of the pastries are baked daily by an awesome pastry chef. The hamburger is ground filet mignon for Christs sake. That is definitley the best burger on Maui. The curries are all made to order with fresh ingredients and spices. The Ahi Wrap was voted worth the trip to Maui by the Los Angeles Times. They have the bomb Guava Mimosa's and homemade Spicy Bloody Mary's. Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch and Dinner are all awesome. The best Ahi Eggs Benedict you'll ever have. It melts in your mouth. -- A.M. San Francisco, California
Moana gets high marks for its stylish concrete floors, high ceilings, booths and cafe tables, and fabulous food. Don Ritchey, formerly a chef at Haliimaile General Store, has created the perfect Paia eatery, a casual bakery/cafe that highlights his stellar skills. All the bases are covered... Moana Bakery & Café is Paia's best-kept secret when it comes to sizable portions of quality food at reasonable prices. We can't steer away from the freshly baked apple strudel or crab cakes Benedict for breakfast. And the lunch menu is impressive as well, from the chili-seared ahi wrap with mango-pineapple salsa and Molokai sweet potato in a sun-dried tomato tortilla, to the roasted veggie sandwich. For dinner, just try deciding between warm goat cheese salad and lemon grass grilled prawns with green papaya or the grilled medallions of filet mignon served with a potato croquette and tarragon beurre rouge. No one leaves hungry, or without promising a return visit. -- Gayot
Today we decided to brave the fabled Road to Hana. We got up with the sun (not that hard to do when you are used to East Coast time) and drove to the funky, quirky town of Paia (at the start of the long winding road up to Hana). Breakfast here at the Moana Bakery and Cafe may well have been one of the best parts of our day. This funny little place (part French pastry shop, part diner, and decorated with Roman columns) has a far better breakfast than the vast majority of New York city's myriad brunch spots....read more -- Between Courses |
